The McDonalds Mr Men Little Miss promotion ran instead of happy meal toys in Australia and New Zealand for 5 weeks to mark 45 years of Roger Hargreaves iconic book series. In a media release by McDonalds it was announced that around 650,000 Mr Men Little Miss books were distributed in New Zealand by McDonalds during the promotion while across the Tasman in Australia several million Mr Men readers were given away.
Collectors Note
The same set of Mr Men Little Miss books were promoted in Singapore in 2016 and in the UK. This series was not promoted in the USA.
One of the cool things about this promotion is that the dedicated happy meal boxes had character-themed push out Mr Men Little Miss bookmarks that could also be used as stands to display the books on as you can see from the image below. Of course most of these bookmarks are lost now as only McDonalds collectors who had the foresight to retain these are likely to have kept them.

Summary
During the period July to September 2016 McDonalds gave away Mr Men Little Miss books in their happy meals throughout Australia and New Zealand. The 10 different Mr Men Little Miss readers were promoted over a 5 week period with one Mr Men and one Little Miss book being released each week. The readers were also promoted in other countries like Singapore and the UK to mark 45 years of Roger Hargreaves Mr Men Little Miss classic book series.
