McDonalds Rubik's toys, which are identical to the Australasian set, were rolled out at restaurants in France in February 2020 with the marketing slogan of "think outside the cube". The intention was to make this iteration of McDonald's Rubik's toys a global promotion but due COVID19 supply was disrupted.
McDonalds have promoted a number of Rubik's cubes over the years starting with a vintage cube from the 1970's. The first cube was a classic cube but unique in that it had slogans on it like Big Mac and french fries along with the McDonalds logo.
In recent years McDonalds promoted Rubik's in Europe and Canada. McDonalds had a set of Rubik's cubes in November 2018 that featured animated movie characters like Minions, Secret Life of Pets and Sing. There have been earlier Rubik's promotions in France including a set of 8 Rubik's with smiley faces in May 2019.
