McDonalds Super Mario Happy Meal Toys 2017 Australia and New Zealand

McDonalds Super Mario happy meal toys were promoted at McDonalds restaurants in Australia and New Zealand in September-October 2017 as part of a global promotion by McDonalds. The Super Mario toys set includes 12 Super Mario character themed toys released as a tie-in with the launch of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe game on Nintendo Switch.

The McDonalds Super Mario 2017 happy meal toys are all hard plastic and have virtually no articulation. However, this set is significant as it is only the second release of Super Mario toys by McDonalds since the now valuable and highly collectible McDonalds Nintendo Super Mario toys of the 1990's. If you recall the first release was in 2014 with the Mario Kart happy meal toys.

A number of countries got the McDonalds Super Mario toys in 2017 although the line-up of the sets varied from country to country. The following countries are known to have had these Super Mario toys:

• Australia and New Zealand
• Canada
• USA
• Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and the Philippines
• UK

McDonalds Super Mario 2017 Australia and New Zealand

The Australia and New Zealand McDonalds Super Mario toys has 12 toys versus 8 toys in most other countries of the world. The Super Mario happy meal toys were available between September and October 2017. The extra Super Mario toys included as compared to sets in Asian countries are: Goomba, Waving Mario, 1-Up Mushroom, Fire Luigi.

The 12 Super Mario happy meal toys included in this McDonalds Super Mario 2017 promotion are:

• Bowser - yellow toy with green spiky shell on his back.
  Push orange button on his rear to fire an orange missile of plastic fire from his mouth.


• Invincible Mario - white Mario.
  Lights up in many different alternating colours when button on bottom of toy is turned to the on position.


• Princess Peach - with yellow hair and pink dress.
  Spins around as you push her along. Background holographic images change.


• 1-Up Mushroom - green and white mushroom.
  Turn on by sliding switch at the bottom of the toy to hear a 1-Up Mushroom sound byte from the Super Mario 3D Land game.


• Koopa Shell - red / deep orange shell.
  Push and go toy.


• Yoshi - green dinosaur with orange saddle on his back and red tongue. Push the orange button on his back (on the saddle) to have him poke his tongue out.


• Luigi Launcher - blue overalls, green shirt and green hat. Comes with yellow warp pipe.
  Insert Luigi into the pipe and push the lever on the bottom of the pipe to see him fire out fast like a human cannonball.





• Super Mario Connecting Blocks - (not included in USA release but part of UK release). Two brown and one yellow interconnecting blocks.
  Arrange the blocks horizontally or vertically and push the button on the yellow block to reveal a star pop up.


• Piranha Plant - (not included in USA release but part of UK release) Green plant with red flower head.
  Push lever to have the plant come up and snap its jaws.


• Goomba - (not included in USA release). Brown toy attached to a staircase.
  Roll flywheel on the back of the staircase to have Goomba slide up and down.


• Fire Luigi - (not included in USA release). White shirt and green overalls.
  Press the green button on his back to have him punch with his right arm.


• Waving Mario - (not included in USA release). Mario sitting on a brick wall. Blue overalls, red hat and shirt.
  Press the button on the back of the wall to make Mario wave.

McDonalds Super Mario 2017 Canada

Canada had a similar release to Australia and NZ.

McDonalds Super Mario 2017 USA

Promotion of 8 Super Mario toys in the US ran from April 26 - May 22 2017. A key difference between the Australasian set, Canada and Asian (eg Malaysia, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Singapore) sets to the USA set is that the basic Mario figure (known as Jumping Mario) is not included in favour of the Waving Mario. The four additional toys not included in the USA release are Goomba, Super Mario Connecting Blocks, Fire Luigi and the Piranha Plant.

Malaysia, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Singapore all got 8 toys in the 2017 Super Mario promotion.

McDonalds Super Mario 2017 United Kingdom

To my knowledge the UK McDonalds didn't have the Super Mario toys in 2017 like many other countries. Most likely this is because there was an 8 toy Super Mario set released in 2014. While the toys are not the same the design is very similar.

Summary

12 McDonalds Super Mario happy meal toys were released in 2017 in Australia and New Zealand. This set has four more toys than most sets around the world which only have 8 toys. One marked difference in this set and most Asian editions is the absence of the Jumping Mario figure that is included in the USA promotion.
